Kenilworth Curves gym is continuing to support its vulnerable members despite being unable to open so far this year.

The women-only gym, which acts as a community for women in the town, has been providing live online workouts, as well as pre-recorded sessions for its members throughout lockdown.

Staff at the fitness club have also been keeping in regular contact with vulnerably members who have been on living on their own during the pandemic or are not of good health.

Lockdown has also seen staff helping members by delivering prescriptions and food shopping to members who are shielding due to Covid-19.

All of the gym’s exercise classes are live via Zoom and pre-recorded workouts have been published on the gym’s Facebook page.

Curves Kenilworth has been open at Talisman Shopping Centre in the heart of the town for more than 10 years, but came under new ownership when Jane Westrope bought the business in January 2020.

The fitness club offers a unique 30-minute workout designed for women, combining strength training with cardio activity and stretching to create lean muscle, increase metabolism, burn more fat and tone your body.

When open, members can visit the club at any time during opening hours and a circuit coach is on hand to run a session.

Jane said: “It’s been a strange year since I bought the business and we have only been able to be open for a few months in that time.

“We know that a lot of our members rely on Curves as a community and support network, so we have made sure we are supporting those that we can despite not being able to open our doors during lockdown.

“The virtual classes have been a great success and helped to motivate our members to keep their fitness levels going, which in turn has a positive impact on their physical wellbeing and mental health.

“We look forward to reopening when we can and introducing new additional fitness services and in-house women centric health and wellbeing services.”

Talisman Shopping Centre in the heart of Kenilworth is home to well-known high street names and smaller local businesses.

Hugo Hawkings, chief executive of Discovery Properties – the developers of Talisman Shopping Centre, added: “The team at Curves have gone above and beyond to support their members and it is fantastic to see the business making such a positive impact in the town.

“It has been a difficult year for all of our businesses at Talisman Shopping Centre, even more so for the gym and fitness providers based at the centre. We hope soon they will be able to reopen safely and welcome members back to physical classes.”
